What does this indicator show?

This indicator shows the variation in proportions of highest qualifications held by Londoners by borough.

The classification system is the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF):

  • Level 1 includes GCSE grades 3 to 1 (D to G)
  • Level 2 includes GSCE grades 9 to 4 (A* to C)
  • Level 3 includes A-levels
  • Level 4 includes apprenticeships, degrees and above

What does it tell us?

There is a large variation between London boroughs in terms of the proportion of the working-age population that have degree-level or above qualifications. Lambeth has the highest proportion (78%) of its working-age population with degree-level/apprenticeship or above qualifications, whilst Barking and Dagenham has the lowest (47%).

Richmond had the lowest (6%) had the lowest proportion of people with no or other qualifications (6%), while Newham had 3.6 times as many at 22%.
