This report outlines a ten-point manifesto for Local Authorities in London to adopt to support families in the capital.
The manifesto was devised by the London Child Poverty Alliance – a coalition of the following charities: Trust for London, Shelter, LVSC, The Children’s Society, Working Families, Timewise Foundation, Z2K, child Poverty Action Group, children England, Toynbee Hall and 4 in 10.
There are a number of barriers that make working and bringing up a family in London difficult:
- Wages are not keeping pace with rising living costs, especially housing costs
- There is a shortage of family friendly jobs
- It is difficult to find flexible and affordable childcare
- Access to advice and information services is limited
- Housing costs are soaring and there is a shortage of quality homes
The report aims to help councillors and Local Authorities make London work for families by setting out ten policies that recognise the challenges currently facing boroughs and was published in the run up to the May 2014 local elections.
