Funding long-term change
This year's report reflects our continued shift towards funding work that changes the systems driving poverty, rather than only responding to its consequences. Lasting change is built through strong relationships, shared learning and sustained investment in the organisations closest to the issues.
Guided by our 2030 strategy, we're investing in organisations that build community power, influence policy and challenge the structures that keep people in poverty. That approach is underpinned by a commitment to being a relational funder. In practice this means working in partnership with organisations, listening closely and providing the flexibility needed for complex, long-term work.
The report brings together examples of how this approach is making a difference, including:
- Parents with lived experience helping shape the Government's Child Poverty Strategy through Changing Realities
- The Better Temporary Accommodation alliance securing commitments from councils to improve conditions for families in temporary accommodation
- A pioneering partnership with Policy in Practice that has helped thousands of low-income households access discounted water bills through automatic enrolment.
- Convening work that is strengthening campaigns for fair employment, disability justice and racial justice,
- How social investment in companies working for social good continues to open up new opportunities for community organisations and underrepresented leaders.
Alongside these stories, the report highlights the importance of evidence, collaboration and support beyond grant funding. From London's Poverty Profile - where we provide essential data for campaigners and policymakers - to our Funder Plus programme, that helps organisations build skills and resilience.
