Working with and developing a new generation of disability justice activists.

Funding snapshot

Programme area: Disability justice

Amount: £64,000

Length of grant: 2023-2026

ADKC

We’re not just inviting young Disabled people into our organisation. We’re inviting them to determine its future development.

The challenge

The disability justice movement needs to include young Disabled people in order to be sustainable. But organisations often struggle to engage with young people. Action Disability Kensington and Chelsea has an increasingly aging cohort of local Disabled activists – and lacked the capacity to recruit and support young local Disabled people.

The project

Action Disability Kensington and Chelsea (ADKC) is a user-led Disabled people’s organisation providing support and advice to local Disabled people.

Using our funding, ADKC is working with local young people to develop the next generation of leaders in Kensington and Chelsea’s disability justice movement. It’s doing this by:

  • Recruiting and empowering a group of young local Disabled people to develop the skills they need to become the next generation of local Disabled leaders
  • Engaging with and supporting young local Disabled people to be an active presence and leaders in the local community and local services
