Amount: £10,000
Length of grant: 2023-2024
Impact goal: Improving social security
The challenge
Our social security system isn’t protecting people from poverty. Many people who rely on the social security system payments are unable to make ends meet, and going without essentials.
The project
Ahead of 2024’s general election, we co-funded liberal conservative think tank Bright Blue to work in collaboration with the Fabian Society to build cross-party momentum around social security reform. This aims both to influence election manifestos, but also ensure that lessons from welfare reforms over the last 10 years inform the thinking of the next government. This work includes:
- Public research, setting out the case for social security form as well as policy solutions – such as ‘Building up: The future of social security’, funded under a previous grant.
- Events with decision makers and politicians across parties, to create conversations about reform to the social security system.
