What we fund – Barnet Lone Parent Centre

Specialist welfare advice to lone parents in Barnet.

Funding snapshot

Programme area: Strengthening social security

Amount: £60,000

Length of grant: 2024-2026

Impact goal: Increasing benefits take-up

The challenge

Single parents are significantly more likely to be in poverty. Barnet Lone Parent Centre see lone parents skipping meals, keeping the heating off, and not going out with their children unless it’s free. On top of this, many people in London aren’t claiming the full benefits they’re available, which means they miss out on vital income.

The project

We fund Barnet Lone Parent Centre to provide specialist welfare advice to lone parents in Barnet. This includes:

  • A specialist advice service, providing case work and benefits advice.
  • A benefits check, provided to all clients, to ensure that beneficiaries are able to claim all the benefits they are entitled to.
  • Working closely with other local organisations to ensure it is reaching those most in need.

On average, Barnet Lone Parent Centre’s advice project supports around 140 people a year.

Building trust and fostering long term relationships is a big part of what we do. This allows us to make a significant impact on people’s lives.
