Specialist welfare advice to lone parents in Barnet.

The challenge
Single parents are significantly more likely to be in poverty. Barnet Lone Parent Centre see lone parents skipping meals, keeping the heating off, and not going out with their children unless it’s free. On top of this, many people in London aren’t claiming the full benefits they’re available, which means they miss out on vital income.
The project
We fund Barnet Lone Parent Centre to provide specialist welfare advice to lone parents in Barnet. This includes:
- A specialist advice service, providing case work and benefits advice.
- A benefits check, provided to all clients, to ensure that beneficiaries are able to claim all the benefits they are entitled to.
- Working closely with other local organisations to ensure it is reaching those most in need.
On average, Barnet Lone Parent Centre’s advice project supports around 140 people a year.
