The property purchased by Branches Hostel using our loan is currently being refurbished into 'move-on' accommodation.
A loan of £300,000 to purchase premises to use as ‘move-on’ accommodation.
About Branches
Branches has provided shelter to single homeless people in Waltham Forest since 1996. Ten years ago, the organisation moved into its first permanent hostel. Here, it provides single homeless people with accommodation for up to 18 months.
Residents staying in the hostel can also access health and wellbeing support, along with training in life-skills – such as managing money – and volunteering, training or employment opportunities.
What we funded
We provided Branches with a loan of £300,000 over twenty years. It will be used to purchase a property to be used as ‘move-on’ accommodation for formerly homeless residents of the Branches Hostel.
Impact
After staying in Branches’ hostel and receiving support, many residents are able to move on and live independently. But some people need a bit more support.
The new property will enable more Branches residents to access ‘move-on’ accommodation – an ‘interim’ base to help people to progress to independent living and increasing skills and resilience. This will increase the number of people that ultimately move on to settle in their own homes.
The investment from Trust for London was actually really seminal for us. It enabled us to acquire this property, and it gave other funders the confidence that we were serious and we knew what we were doing.
